About U2

Bystanders to decades of war and strife in their native Ireland, U2 wielded their popularity like a weapon and actively championed pacifism as the singular, clarifying action all of humanity was responsible for.

U2 formed in 1976, after both Bono and The Edge responded to a school bulletin placed by drummer Larry Mullen Jr.

Originally christened as Feedback by Bono and company, U2 went through several name changes before settling on their now famous designation, which they chose primarily because of its ambiguous nature.

U2 eventually signed with Island Records in 1980 and that same year released their debut album Boy.

However, it was the aptly titled War that launched their global crusade, and led by the stirring “Sunday Bloody Sunday” and anthemic “New Year’s Day”, assured they’d have the funds needed to take up the cause.

On March 9, 1987, U2 released the immortal Joshua Tree, whose accompanying singles “With or Without You”, “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”, and “Where the Streets Have No Name” not only secured them over 25 million albums sold, but would come to define their legacy as musicians.
