About The Police
Anyone who survived the 80’s knows that spandex and New Wave were king, and The Police was the one band to rule them all.
Formed in 1977 by Stewart Copeland and Sting, the Police originally marketed themselves as a Punk Rock act, but their reggae-soaked rhythms defied all classification and earned them a devoted fan following early on.
Their 1978 debut album Outlandos d’Amour was initially censored by the BBC as a result of their controversial singles “Can’t Stand Losing You” and “Roxanne”, which touched on the less than wholesome themes of suicide and prostitution.
The Police furthered their penchant for inappropriate subject matter with their final album Synchronicity and stalker mixtape essential “Every Breath You Take”, which to this day remains their most recognized song.
Copeland, Sting, and guitarist Andy Summers reunited in 2007 and were among the top touring acts that year.
