About The Allman Brothers Band
Perhaps the most inconspicuous of the guitar gods, few can recognize Duane Allman by name or appearance, but with little more than a subtle motion of his wrist he could capture the undivided attention of a capacity crowd.
Born on November 20, 1946 in Nashville, Tennessee, Duane grew up alongside his younger brother and future bandmate, Gregg, who exposed him to the guitar at an early age.
According to legend, Duane was lying in bed with a fever when Gregg brought him a bottle of Coricidin to relieve his symptoms, but instead opted to empty the container and used it to play slide guitar for the first time.
With his newly discovered sound, Duane was hired as a session musician and worked for such notable artists as Wilson Pickett, Eric Clapton, and Aretha Franklin.
Duane went on to release only four albums as part of the Allman Brothers Band, including their self-titled debut, Eat a Peach, and the immortal live recording At Fillmore East, which helped cement his legacy as one of the most influential guitarists of all time.
Sadly, his life came to an abrupt end on October 29, 1971 when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a construction truck.
