About Nine Inch Nails
Nearly every misanthropic teenager from the 90’s has one man to thank for their seemingly self-sustaining supply of angst and melancholy.
Part man and messianic figure, Trent Reznor began to leave his mark in New York where he worked at a recording studio as an assistant engineer and part-time janitor.
There he recorded demos which he later submitted to record labels under his now well-known Nine Inch Nails pseudonym.
Reznor eventually signed with TVT Records and with the collaboration of other trusted producers recorded his brilliant 1989 debut Pretty Hate Machine entirely by himself.
Playing pied piper to an army of disenchanted youth, Reznor continued to wage his unending war against authority on The Downward Spiral, whose heavily censored midnight serenade (“Closer”) and soul-crushing ode to drug addiction (“Hurt”), somehow managed to capture the attention of mainstream audiences.
In 2008 Reznor officially broke free from the shackles of the music industry and in the process founded The Null Corporation, an independent label responsible for the distribution of all future Nine Inch Nails material.
