About Michael Jackson
Michael Jackson accomplished what no non-aggression pact or nuclear non-proliferation treaty between warring nations could; he brought the world together if for a brief moment and gave people of different races and creeds a shared experience.
Originally a member of Motown favorites The Jackson 5, the former child star transitioned into a solo career in 1972, but was initially met by some harsh indifference as fans slowly began to distance themselves from his music.
It wasn’t until fifth studio album Off The Wall that Jackson’s career truly took flight, earning him his first Grammy Award as a solo artist and a chart-topping single in “Can’t Stop ‘til You Get Enough”.
His next album Thriller would not only come to solidify his claim to the King of Pop throne, but also brought about a tectonic shift in music and culture, as an entire generation grew up with intimate knowledge of Billie Jean’s lover, discovered that all conflicts were best resolved with choreographed dance (“Beat It”), and learned that Vincent Price’s voice had the power to raise the dead (“Thriller”).
Mired by eccentric behavior and accusations of sexual misconduct, Jackson’s life came to a tragic end on June 25, 2009.
