About Lady Gaga
Everyone from long haul truckers to prepubescent school girls knows who Lady Gaga is so for better or worse her Avant-garde fashion sense and kung-fu grip stranglehold over popular culture is here to stay.
Born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta on March 28, 1986, Lady Gaga grew up in a traditional middle class family that stressed hard work above all else.
Struggling to fit in with her peers, the eccentric performer turned to high school musical productions as a creative outlet.
At age 19 Lady Gaga signed with Def Jam Records, who subsequently dropped her after three months.
Not one to get discouraged, Lady Gaga continued performing as both a singer and neo-burlesque dancer in New York, which in turn led to a songwriting position with ATV Music Publishing, where she created music for Britney Spears, Fergie, and the Pussycat Dolls.
Lady Gaga was eventually introduced to producer RedOne by management and under their newfound partnership penned the incredibly infectious singles “Just Dance” and “Poker Face”, which would later appear on her 2008 multi-platinum selling debut album The Fame.
She achieved true global icon status the following year with the release of her highly anticipated sequel The Fame Monster, whose lavishly produced The Monster Ball Tour and frequent appearances on all media outlets, helped secure Lady Gaga’s place in mainstream society.
