About Kid Rock
It’s a testament to an artist when they can seamlessly make the transition from one drastically different music genre to another, but this is exactly what self-appointed “American Badass” Kid Rock has done.
Born Robert James Ritchie on January 17, 1971 in a Michigan suburb, Kid Rock exposed himself to the music of Johnny Cash and Bob Segar, as well as their complete antithesis in Run-D.M.C. and the Beastie Boys at an early age, setting the stage for his foray into Detroit’s competitive underground music scene.
In 1999 Kid Rock released his first of many hit singles in “Bawitdaba”, which became somewhat of an overnight sensation and catapulted his then unknown album Devil Without a Cause into multiplatinum selling status, earning him a slot at the newly revamped Woodstock 1999 music festival, where he would give a career defining performance.
Since then Kid Rock has gone on to expand his musical repertoire to include the very same country music he once listened to as a child, and in 2007 produced the chart-topping Rock N Roll Jesus, whose song “All Summer Long” became a staple for radio stations everywhere.
