About Depeche Mode
Few bands have done more for their respective genre than Depeche Mode, who extended the life span of New Wave far beyond its polyester heyday.
With a lineup that originally consisted of Dave Gahan, Martin Gore, Andrew Fletcher, and Vince Clarke of Yazoo and Erasure fame, Depeche Mode burst onto the scene in 1981 with their enormously successful single “Just Can’t Get Enough”.
However, it wasn’t until their fourth studio album Some Great Reward that their music and legacy truly began to take form, as they embraced the brooding synth drone present in songs such as “People Are People” and “Master and Servant”.
From 1986 through 1990, Depeche Mode established themselves as creative forces, releasing one critically-acclaimed album after the next in Black Celebration, Music for the Masses, and their best-selling album to this day, Violator, which has sold roughly 11 million copies worldwide.
