About Children of Bodom
The term Melodic Death Metal may seem a bit oxymoronic, but Children of Bodom managed to soothe the unbridled aggression and foreboding nature of the genre with a healthy dose of 80’s era New Wave of British Heavy Metal.
Originating from the coastal town of Espoo, Finland, founding members Alexi Laiho and Jaska Rattikainen met one another at an early age and regularly exposed themselves to the music of Entombed and Obituary.
Hoping to maneuver out of a record contract, Children of Bodom turned to the local phone book for another name and happened upon a listing for Lake Bodom.
Intrigued by the name, Laiho and company researched the location further and discovered a horrific murder involving four teenagers had taken place in 1960, which they later used as an inspiration for the song “Lake Bodom”.
Immensely popular in their native country, Children of Bodom released three consecutive chart-topping albums in Hate Crew Deathroll, Are You Dead Yet?, and Blooddrunk.
