About Bruce Springsteen

No one spoke to the plight of the common man quite like Bruce Springsteen, whose songs revealed an America torn apart by greed and indifference.

Springsteen grew up amidst the urban decay of nearby Asbury Park, New Jersey, a once proud coastal resort town that had been ravaged by time and economic hardship, and which later became the backdrop for his first album Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.

In 1975 the Boss released his magnum opus in Born to Run, whose themes of romantic idealism (“Jungleland”) and defiance in the face of almost insurmountable odds (“Thunder Road”) came to epitomize the struggles of a disenfranchised working class.

Hoping to recover from the stark isolation of Nebraska, Springsteen and the E Street Band turned to a more vibrant sound on seventh studio album Born in the U.S.A., and with massive hits such as “Glory Days” and “Dancing in the Dark”, further legitimized themselves as cultural icons.

Nearly two decades later Springsteen reemerged in a post 9/11 world and with The Rising became the voice of a battered, but not broken New York City.
