About Black Sabbath
The early 70’s had been dominated by disco and the once rebellious sound of Rock music had been drowned out and transformed into yet another lucrative creative outlet for record labels to exploit.
That was until four Birmingham, England natives breathed new life into the dying art form and with their band Black Sabbath gave Rock its dark, brooding soul.
Tony Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward released their landmark album Paranoid in 1970 at the height of the Vietnam War.
People had grown weary of the United States involvement in the overseas conflict and songs such as the apocalyptic “Iron Man” and subversive “War Pigs” spoke directly to their frustrations.
The following year Black Sabbath recorded another instant classic in Master of Reality, whose themes of death and decay were punctuated by Iommi’s menacing guitar crunch and Osbourne’s tortured vocals.
