Most can recall a bleach blond Jared Leto getting his face pummeled by Tyler Durden in the nihilistic movie classic Fight Club, but few imagined that same bruised and battered face would ever take up music as a calling.
The actor turned musician’s foray into Emo began as a side project with his brother Shannon, who chose their now famous namesake after reading a thesis written by a Harvard professor, which illustrated the rapid growth of technology with the notion that humanity was a mere 30 Seconds to Mars.
The band’s self-titled debut and follow-up, A Beautiful Lie, were both well-received by music audiences and spawned several radio hits in “The Kill”, and the completely unavoidable, “From Yesterday”.
